Prince William Completes Landmark First Official Visit to Saudi Arabia

In February 2026, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, undertook his inaugural official visit to Saudi Arabia,a three-day diplomatic mission from February 9 to February 11, requested by the British government to strengthen bilateral ties between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Arrival and Meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (February 9)

Prince William arrived at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on February 9, where he was welcomed with traditional Saudi hospitality. The day's centerpiece was a warm meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud at the UNESCO World Heritage site of At-Turaif in Diriyah, the ancestral birthplace of the Saudi state.

The pair toured the historic Najdi architecture site and discussed a broad range of topics in their 'warm and far-ranging' conversation. Youth, Sport, and Innovation Engagements (February 10)

On the second day, Prince William focused on Saudi Arabia's advancements in empowering young people and women through sport. At MISK Sports City in Riyadh, he met young female footballers during a training session, learning about the rapid growth of women's participation in athletics in the Kingdom.

He joined in an esports demonstration, playing Rocket League in a fun, competitive atmosphere. The young athletes gifted him a team jersey to take home for his daughter, Princess Charlotte, who is an avid football fan. These interactions underscored themes of inclusion, innovation, and the role of sport in building community.

Conservation and Cultural Heritage in AlUla (February 11)

The final day shifted to the breathtaking AlUla region, another UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its ancient landscapes and natural beauty. Prince William visited the Sharaan Nature Reserve, where he toured wildlife conservation projects aimed at protecting biodiversity and reintroducing endangered species such as the Arabian oryx and gazelles.

He planted a tree in the desert as part of ongoing sustainability efforts and visited a facility known as 'Prince of Wales House,' named in his honour, a symbolic gesture of the deepening UK - Saudi partnership in conservation and climate action.

The visit concluded as Prince William boarded an RAF jet at AlUla International Airport, seen off by Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Madinah Region.
